Prior to founding Living Wealth Advisors, Mr. Freitag served as the Director – Strategic Affairs for the Living Benefits Financial Group. Mr. Freitag was responsible for overseeing the company’s relationships with its strategic partners and directing the development of new business relationships. Mr. Freitag also supervised legal due diligence, evaluation and qualification of existing portfolios and new originations.
Before joining Living Benefits, Mr. Freitag was a partner in the Atlanta office of Locke Lord LLP (formerly Locke Lord Bissell & Liddell, LLP). He was a member of the firm’s corporate insurance department and has substantial experience in a variety of life settlement, premium finance, insurance, private debt, bankruptcy and other transactional, regulatory and licensing matters. Mr. Freitag’s practice involved a wide range of domestic and international activities, including the review, negotiation and implementation of various senior and junior credit facilities, origination agreements, premium finance and investment programs, corporate governance, licensing and regulatory compliance. He also has significant experience representing lenders and other creditors in corporate bankruptcies and workouts.
Before joining Locke Lord Bissell & Liddell, Mr. Freitag acted as the head of the legal and compliance departments for a multi-national company specializing in the purchase and servicing of distressed consumer receivables. This company focused on both portfolio acquisitions and consumer debt recovery.
Mr. Freitag graduated from Harvard University in 1989 with a degree in government and from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1993.
A frequent speaker and panelist, Mr. Freitag has addressed the DealFlow Media Life Settlements Conferences, the National Underwriter Life Settlement Summits, multiple conferences sponsored by the Life Insurance Settlements Association and various other events.
REPRESENTATIVE LIFE INSURANCE TRANSACTIONS
- Advised a U.S. pension fund in the purchase of a portfolio of $140,000,000 of life insurance policies.
- Represented U.S. borrowers in connection with $500,000,000 and $100,000,000 U.S. credit facilities for the acquisition of life settlements.
- Conducted due diligence evaluation of a $1,000,0000,000 portfolio on behalf of multiple Asian financial institutions
- Structured and documented forward flow purchase agreement for a life settlement provider with respect to a portfolio valued at over $1,000,000,000 of life insurance.
- Represented a Luxembourg bank in its roles as Custodian and Escrow Agent for multiple Luxembourg investment funds in connection with the acquisition of U.S. life settlements.
- Represented a European bank in connection with the acquisition of $750,000,000 of life settlements.
- Represented U.S. master lender in $45,000,000 and $50,000,000 credit facilities to life insurance premium finance companies.
- Represented a life settlement provider in connection with a $135,000,000 origination agreement with a major U.S. financial institution and closing of individual policy acquisitions thereafter.
- Structured and documented purchase of $65,000,000 in premium finance loans and conducting due diligence review of underlying transactions.
