FAQ
What is premium optimization?
Premium optimization means undertaking a financial evaluation of an existing insurance policy to determine what future premium payments should be made in ordinary to best meet the policy owner’s financial goals. Most owners of life insurance policies simply pay the amount of premiums invoiced by the insurance company without evaluating if that payment is in their best financial interest. Living Wealth Advisors will review and analyze all information regarding our client’s life insurance policies (in-force illustrations, policy contract, annual statements, etc.) to calculate the optimal premium payments for a policy. Living Wealth Advisors will calculate the minimum required premium payments that are needed to keep a policy in-force. Living Wealth Advisors will update premium estimates based upon the most recent policy information available. The process can be performed annually to ensure a policy is maintained as efficiently as possible. The premium optimization tool ensures that a client can maximize its financial return from a policy by streamlining the cash flows relating to such policy.
Who is using premium optimization today?
Major banks, insurance companies, investment houses and hedge funds have used premium management tools for more than 25 years to maximize their returns from life insurance policies. These institutions include Wells Fargo Bank, AIG, Fortress Investment Group and Apollo Investment Corporation. It is estimated that more than $35 billion in face of life insurance is being actively managed this way today. Living Wealth Advisors was founded by Mark Freitag and Marcia Shieldknight in order to provide these analytical and advisory services to a wide range of universities, foundations, institutions, charities and other clients outside the investment community.
What information does Living Wealth Advisors need to review a life insurance policy?
In general, we will need the following information with respect to each life insurance policy we are to review: (1) a copy of the complete policy, (2) a copy of the most recent annual statement from the insurer, and (3) a current illustration showing the account values and death benefits through the maturity of the policy. We will also need an engagement agreement as well as authorizations to obtain any additional information regarding each policy from the insurance company.
How long will it take Living Wealth Advisors to review a portfolio of life insurance policies?
Once we receive all of the necessary information to analyze a policy, we will provide our client with our analysis in 10 to 20 business days depending upon the number of policies in their portfolio. If requested, we will also provide a copy of our analysis directly to our client’s financial advisors.
Do I have to take out a loan to manage my premium payments or will the death benefit under a life insurance policy otherwise be reduced?
No. This is not a premium finance program, and our clients will not need to incur any liabilities or reduce the death benefits payable under any life insurance policy upon the death of the insured.
